“If I could dig down deep in my heart
Feelings would flood on the page
Would it satisfy ya, would it slide on by ya
Would ya think the boy’s insane?
I said I know it’s only rock ‘n’ roll but I like it
I know it’s only rock ‘n’ roll but I like it, like it, yes, I do
Oh, well, I like it, I like it, I like it…”
Rolling Stones – It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll (but I Like It)
So, just how did the inspiration for this styled shoot evolve? When looking to collaborate on a new shoot, I knew I wanted just something with a certain edge… something a little unique, with a pared back, industrial style look and feel. When considering options, I knew a rock themed shoot would suit this backdrop to a tee. All we now needed to do was find the perfect venue and a plethora of fabulous suppliers to boot!
When the partner of Words To Glow is co-owner of an up and coming local micro brewery, Seven Bro7hers Brewery in Manchester, that also happens to double up as a trendy pop up bar/music venue, the location was a certain no brainer!
Established in 2014 and now brewing 7 craft beers: IPA, EPA, Session, Porter Stout, Watermelon Wheat Beer, Black IPA and Red IPA, this popular working micro brewery is perfectly located on the edge of Media City UK, in the heart of Salford Quays.
As well as supplying venues, bars and shops throughout the UK, Seven Bro7hers hosts a popular pop up brewery bar once a month serving it’s iconic beers and tasty street food, and showcasing up and coming local bands. Due to its continued success, it is soon to be opening its first craft beer bar in the heart of the trendy Northern Quarter in Manchester City Centre very soon.
The Suppliers, aka ‘THE DREAM TEAM’:
Following a chance introduction via the wonder that is social media, the ‘DREAM TEAM’ was formed, and the ideas and creative juices began to flow! Hhhmm….The roll call (drums please…!)

The Day Begins:
Styled shoots always start early and this was certainly no exception. While no doubt the rest of you tucked into your Sunday morning brunch of bacon butties and lattes (it was Father’s Day after all!), with iced doughnuts and brews in tow, the DREAM TEAM got to work.
It goes without saying, that this just had to be one of THE most relaxed and fun photo shoots I have ever had the pleasure in collaborating on – a BIG SHOUT out to Jamie from Vickerstaff Photography and for everyone for making the long day such an enjoyable experience.
Arriving shortly after 9am, Gillian and Sarah quickly got to work in transforming our model for the day, Belle into a delectable rock goddess. Using a edgy eye colour palette of smoky greys and plums, lashings of dark liquid liner and a fabulous dark purple lip, Sarah worked her magic to perfection.
Our stunning model Belle had long beautiful flowing hair and was simply perfect for the shoot. Belle had coloured her hair an amazing shade of violet, especially with our rock shoot in mind! Using the likes of Gwen Stefani and Pink as style inspiration, Gillian worked Belle’s crowing glory to the max, and was certainly on pointe in delivering to the style brief. I personally love the way the front of Belle’s hair has been quiffed to give that rocky edge; whilst still retaining a distinctly feminine look with the beautifully intricate fishtail plait to the back. It certainly showed off Belle’s stunning eyes and eye makeup to perfection, and of course, the delicate birdcage net veil in a gorgeous shade of plum, provided by Dream Veils, complimented Belle’s hair colour and added in just a touch of naughtiness to the mix!
Our beautiful dress was provided by the lovely Nicole at Pearl Bridal in Sale. A cutesy three-quarter length number, with delicate floral applique bodice and tulle skirt; this gown looked just stunning with our model’s vampy caged heels and very own Doc Marten boots. Teamed with the obligatory leather biker jacket and Belle was ready to transform into Mrs ROCK.
Of course, our light up letters featured throughout the shoot and what better way to illuminate this fab venue than with some sparkly LED lights, spelling out your name and urging you to PARTY on down!! Keen to introduce our new mini letter lights in to the mix, we feel Jamie from Vickerstaff Photography expertly photographed our letters and showcased just how our light up event props can be used to add that extra special something to your wedding or party photographs.
Helping to set the stage for our impromptu jam session, we think our PARTY illuminated letters look just out of this world in these cracking photos. Jamie certainly knows just how to get the money shot; each and every time!
Unbelievably, we were lucky enough to dodge the many rain showers our lovely city of Manchester has offered up over the past month or so and the team ventured outside.
I think these images just go to show, always think ‘outside the box’ guys when it comes to your wedding pictures – break the mould and defy tradition. Say no to convention and embrace all our fabulous city centre locations have to offer – the quirkier, the better and these images represent just how fabulously edgy and modern ‘industrial’ can be.
Our two floral bouquets, the larger of the two featuring white peonies and the smaller, astilbe, kindly provided by Verdure Floral Design were beautiful in their simplicity and were the perfect accompaniment to Belle’s outdoor shots.
My most favourite of the outdoor shots has to be these of Belle ‘walking the line’ so to speak! The lighting effects in these images are nothing short of amazing …..
Sound system? Check! Some serious ATTITUDE. Check! Taking centre stage, Belle works it with the help of some fabulous lighting and an electric guitar – what more do you want?
Finally, at the end of a very long day, some chilled back and relaxed shots. The wonderfully theatrical candlebras were provided courtesy of Verdure Floral Design, we then simply added in a fabulous Queen Ann Leather Armchair and turned the lights down low to create some moody, super sexy after dark shots, more than a little reminiscent of that wonderful all time favourite musical, Phantom of the Opera.
So delicious was the idea and concept of this shoot, it drew the attention of the very lovely Rachael over at Marry Me Ink and was featured on her fabulous blog. Why not head on over to their page for further luscious wedding inspo and advice? As Rachael says the site aims “to draw attention to real life tattooed brides -to show the bride-to-be that they can look fantastic inked in a dress!” A must go-to-guide for the alternative modern day bride-to-be.
Of course, with so many images to choose from the day, it really was too difficult to showcase all in their gloriousness and even select the chosen few for Rachael’s blog. So, I will simply leave you with the best of the rest here, and let the wonderful images speak for themselves. OOOh, I want to do it all AGAIN! Please!!!
When’s the next shoot guys…..??
