Following on from our blog on fancy dress party themes last week, here at Words To Glow we are excited to bring you our take on how to dress your party venue to just such a theme! Read on for ‘Part 2: Tonight Matthew, I am going to be…….’
Beauty and the Geek
Colour scheme: Anything goes!
On a budget: The tackier the better! Checkered tablecloths, paper doilies , paper hats, streamers, bright coloured balloons.
Why not really let your guests embrace their nerdy side by having a nerdy props corner or a bucket centre piece for each table with assorted props for guests to play with?
Splashing the cash: Hire a photo booth, let the drinks flow and sit back and revel in your guests’ drunkenness!
Casino/James Bond
Colour scheme: Just has to be black, white and red!
On a budget: Decorate your party venue with black and white balloons, lots of tea lights and candle holders to add ambience and crisp white table wear. Look for casino themed decorations via online auctions or if you are feeling creative, simply create your own 007 themed decorations by threading playing cards through gold string.
Splashing the cash: Black and white checkerboard dancefloor, gold gilt chairs, starlight backdrop and fabulously extravagant table centre pieces (think long stemmed vases with ginormous white feathers!)
Black jack and roulette wheels a must (if you are a budding DIY enthusiast, these tables can be homemade with the cloths purchased from an online store). If you would really like to impress, how about hiring a magician to work the tables and WOW your guests?
Angels & Devils/Good versus Evil
Colour scheme: Split the room down the middle – decorate one half in shades of red/black and the other half with white, white and more white.
On a budget: For good: lots and lots of pillar candles, tea lights and crisp white linen. For evil: Black table cloths, red sashes, scattered red petals. Highlight the two different aspects to your room with different coloured uplighters, red and white to set the mood.
Splashing the cash: Add the WOW factor with some fabulous table centre pieces like the ones shown here!
Moulin Rouge/Burlesque
Colour scheme: Red and black
On a budget: Think red table linen, table lamps with heavy, fringed lampshades, low lighting, tea lights and lots of red and black feather boas draped here and there around the room.
Splashing the cash: Create your very own stage (perhaps your venue already has one) with red curtains and a home made Moulin Rouge sign as seen in the picture below.
1920’s/Gatsby
Colour scheme: The colours that are associated with the 1920’s are inspired by the Art Deco period of the time. Black and gold featured throughout.
On a budget: This is a very stylish but easy theme to work towards, that has maximum impact. Gold or black napkins with stylish gilt napkin holders and gold cutlery speak of class; whilst scattered crystal beads add a little bit of extra bling. Why not create your own menus, table plan or name cards to add a touch of formality to the event?
Splashing the cash: Think table centres to impress! Tall, crystal candlebras and white feather centre pieces.
Through the Decades
Colour scheme: Why not have bright neon colours reminiscent of the colours found on a Rubik’s Cube?
On a budget: Bright, multi-coloured balloons, and mismatched table cloths.
Splashing the cash: How about hiring a fantastically, multi-coloured dancefloor to boogie on?
Flashdance versus Fame
On a budget: Make your own red carpet and Hollywood Walk of Fame!
Splashing the cash: Theme it to the max! Think cardboard cut out Hollywood signs, film reels, and stars.
Space: The Final Frontier
Colour scheme: Blue and silver
On a budget: Make your own ‘planets’ out of paper lanterns, paint and tin foil!
Splashing the cash: Coloured strobe lighting, a black starlit backdrop, smoke machines and blue uplighters will all create the outer space look you are aiming for.
90’s
Colour scheme: Bright and colourful
On a budget: An old skool DJ to push out those 90’s tunes. Why not have a cake table with a difference – packed with sweets and treats we all know and love from our school days?
Take inspiration from objects of the past for a quirky take on table centres. I simply LOVE these blinged up video tapes!
Splashing the cash: How about your very own HIP HOP graffiti wall as your dance floor back-drop?
Zombie Apocalypse
On a budget: Moody coloured lighting (purples, greens, blues and oranges), cobwebs and smoke machines a must!
Splashing the cash: Fantastical table centre pieces that speak of death and destruction. These eerie trees are just the ticket!
And of course, why not consider hiring our fabulous light up alphabet letters to provide the perfect sparkly backdrop to your party celebrations! Visit our Product Catalogue page for further info.
