With the heightened popularity of high profile television dramas such as the BBC’s famous Downtown Abbey and ITV’s Mr Selfridge, it is small wonder that our love affair with things of a bygone era continues to flourish and grow.
Translated into the world of weddings and done properly, the vintage theme oozes sophistication and class. With all things vintage set to continue well into Summer 2016, here at Words To Glow we have put together our super seven ways to inject a little Downtown sparkle into your very own special day!
Vintage Inspired Bridal Gowns
I simply could not do a blog post about vintage weddings without highlighting this little gem! I came across Bridal Designer, House of Mooshki very recently whilst browsing social media and simply drooled with delight! With a simply exquisite array of bridal gowns to choose from, you will be hard pushed to choose just the one dress from this stunning bridal collection.
All dresses in the collection have a distinctly vintage feel, and are a bounty with special touches such as lace applique, dainty bows, tulle and organza skirts. Brides can choose from the traditional full length bridal gown or opt for a fifties inspired tea dress as in the pictures shown.
Vintage Inspired Bridal Accessories
In keeping with the wedding attire of yesteryear, why not opt for a beautiful and delicate lace cap? This would look equally as stunning with a traditional and more formal bridal ‘up do’ or worn with loose and romantic wavy curls.
Alternatively, if you a bride who loves a bit of BLING (and why not!), then opt for a stunning Art Deco inspired bridal headband or clip. Add in a vintage brooch bouquet and the your wedding day look is complete.
Not Forgetting the Groom!
Of course, who can forget the groom! Gone are the days when the groom and his grooms men had to wear boring black tuxs or traditional frock coats.
Be sure to inject a little colour and personality into your day with some fun and quirk bow ties or coloured shirts. I am loving these check ties and braces combos.
Stationery and Table Decor
When it comes to vintage stationery there really are lots of options. Be sure to understand what type of vintage look you want for your wedding, as your wedding stationery will be the first indication of this to your intended guests.
If you are hoping for more of a rustic garden party theme, then you couldn’t go wrong with invitations with lots of lace, burlap and ditsy flowers. To give them a more distinct glamorous edge, add in satin ribbon, pearls and sequins.
Each of these distinctive vintage themes are easy to carry through to the wedding day and can be translated into the wedding decor itself. You can of course, create your own wedding stationery and table decor. Alternatively, if you lack that certain creative flair, companies such as Vintage Twee.com will create bespoke invitations and decor to order for you instead.
Time for Tea?
Popular in the Victorian era right through to the 1950’s, the traditional English Afternoon Cream Tea has enjoyed somewhat of a revival in recent times (with the addition of Prosecco no doubt!). Of course, many modern day hotels and vintage cafes alike are proud to list Afternoon Tea on their restaurant menus.
If you quite fancy providing an afternoon tea for your wedding guests, there are some absolutely fabulous vintage tea sets available on the market today, either to buy or to hire for the day.
Alternatively, why not hire someone in and get the complete package, yummy cream scones, cakes and vintage crockery in one?
Vintage Wedding Signs
Adding a certain something special to your wedding day, vintage wedding signs are a great way to add in a little fun and are a great way to really personalise your wedding ceremony and reception for your guests.
Wedding Signs have evolved over recent years. Choose from rustic wooden posts with beautiful hand painted calligraphy signposting your guests where to go to hand crafted illuminated letters which can spell a multitude of romantic phrases such as ‘FOREVER’, ‘LOVE’, ‘ALWAYS’ or even ‘MR & MRS’.
Lighting up a wedding reception and providing a glamorous backdrop to official wedding photography has never been so easy!
Hand Painted & Floral Wedding Cakes
Of course, whilst the trend for no doubt stunning floral, lace and ‘naked’ wedding cakes continues, there are now some show stopping hand painted cakes available to order today.
This cake is simply WOW! The combination of the gold leaf and hand painted flowers is a masterpiece in artwork. It really does look too good to eat!
